Relationships that "heel"—Canines 4 Comfort is a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) providing trained dogs for mental health and wellness. To maintain our high standard of support, we serve within a 45-mile radius of our Gurnee training facility.
Once trained, our dogs are gifted to their new handlers. Canines 4 Comfort transforms lives through canine companionship. We provide:
Psychiatric Service Dogs: Trained to carry out essential tasks for individuals with mental health diagnoses. These specially trained dogs can assist with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression..
Facility/Comfort Dogs:
- Our dogs are integrated "colleagues" within the school day. They support PBIS behavior loops, spark engagement in STEAM curriculum, and assist in Speech and OT services. Through daily classroom visits and active movement, they provide a non-judgmental partnership that transforms the learning environment.
- Placement with first responder teams offers support during traumatic events, help with witness and victim interviews, and provide emotional relief to first responders.
- Provide a grounding presence in courthouses, domestic violence shelters, and healthcare settings. These dogs help individuals navigate high-stress environments, offering quiet comfort and a sense of safety during difficult times.
Emotional Support Dogs: These support animals provide companionship, relieve loneliness, and can help with depression and anxiety. The dogs placed by C4C are trained in basic obedience; they are not trained for public access or any travel training protocol.
These trained dogs bring comfort, stability, and purpose. We offer comprehensive support, including training, education, and care for our dogs and their human partners.
Canines 4 Comfort provides life-changing services free of charge. Your generous donations help us continue our mission of comforting and supporting those in need.
Our efforts focus on training our existing dogs and fulfilling the needs of those on our waitlist. We cannot assist with training dogs that have not been sourced or evaluated by Canines 4 Comfort staff.
Canines 4 Comfort serves a 40-mile radius of Round Lake, Illinois. To ensure a successful partnership, recipients must attend ongoing weekly training sessions held at our Gurnee location.

To ensure the safety and health of our guests, dogs, and volunteers, we do not offer in-home therapy dog visits.
Canines 4 Comfort provides the joy and comfort of therapy dogs in various settings. Our gentle and loving animals help reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness. We offer 60—to 90-minute visits to schools, hospitals, senior living communities, religious organizations, corporate environments, and community organizations.
